Niagara Pride's Partnership with
The Erie County Bar Association
Volunteer Lawyers Project

The Erie County Bar Association Volunteer Lawyers Project (VLP) is a nonprofit organization that provides free civil legal services to low-income individuals and small nonprofit organizations in Western New York. Founded in 1983, VLP expands access to justice by combining the work of dedicated staff attorneys with hundreds of volunteer lawyers who provide pro bono representation and legal advice. Through this collaborative effort, VLP helps thousands of people each year with civil legal matters such as housing, family law, immigration, debt and bankruptcy, wills and estates, and other issues that affect stability and quality of life.

VLP’s Legal Services for Positive Families and Individuals (DOH) program provides free legal assistance to people living with HIV/AIDS and their families across several counties in Western New York. The program helps clients address legal issues that can affect health, housing, financial security, and family stability, including healthcare access, discrimination, housing matters, public benefits, tax concerns, and wills or advance directives. By providing comprehensive legal support, the program helps ensure that individuals living with HIV/AIDS can protect their rights and maintain stability for themselves and their families.

Individuals who need legal help may be able to receive assistance from VLP at no cost.

Each Niagara Pride notary has stated that they are an ally or a member of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Non-Binary, and Intersex community. It is our goal to accommodate those who wish to find an LGBTQ friendly notary for their needs either nearby, or an LGBTQ friendly notary who can travel to them.

A notarization is generally an assurance made by a Notary Public that a document's signature is genuine, that the signer acted without duress and that the signer intended the terms of the document to be in full force and effect.

Most requests for notarization involve the signing of documents. In all cases, all signers and any required witness(es) must be present for the notarization. You'll need to bring acceptable ID as required by your state along with all pages of the document being notarized.

Before you schedule an appointment with a Niagara Pride notary:

  • We suggest you don't sign or date the document (some documents must be signed and dated in the presence of a Notary)

  • Make sure you have all the pages of the document(s) being signed, not just the signature page

  • Make sure all document signers have state-acceptable ID

  • When you (as well as any additional document signers and required witnesses) arrive at your appointment, the Notary will review your document(s) to determine the notarization requirements and whether we are able to complete the notarization. From start to finish, the typical appointment takes about 30 minutes.

For additional information about notary requirements in your state, consult with a legal advisor or contact your Secretary of State's office or other state or local notary authority in your area.
